Multiple studies have showcased the healing benefits of nature. It reduces stress, improves your mood, and can help with issues like depression and anxiety.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>If there was one \u201cpositive\u201d aspect of the COVID-19 pandemic, it\u2019s that it caused people to spend more time outside. When everything was clothes, including gyms and restaurants, people opted for outdoor workouts and picnics in the park.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was (and still is) one of the best ways to decrease the negative impact of isolation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nature soothes us. Even just a few minutes spent outside can make a big difference in your mental state. It\u2019s exactly what you think it is \u2013\u00a0spending time immersed outdoors in a forest-like setting. Even a short amount of time spent amongst the trees can have a huge positive impact. As a bonus, that positivity doesn\u2019t leave when you \u201cget away\u201d from nature. The effects can last for days, especially if you make it a regular part of your routine.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you feel good, physically, you\u2019re more likely to feel good, mentally. Your mind and body are more connected than most people realize, which is why it\u2019s so important for overall wellness to be a priority.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Does Nature Make a Difference?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you know what nature can do, the big question remains \u2013&nbsp;why?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why is nature so soothing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While there isn\u2019t one definitive answer, the greatest theory is that we were meant to be \u201cone\u201d with nature. It\u2019s what we evolved from, so it\u2019s built into our very core. Living in a society that often feels like non-stop forward motion can be draining. There\u2019s a reason so many people are constantly stressed and overwhelmed. Nature gives you the opportunity to rejuvenate your mind and feel restored. You have the chance to practice being mindful of the present moment and your surroundings.  Think of a little video game character with a power bar above their head. Nature helps to fill that bar, making you feel more fulfilled and fully soothed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, nature leaves us in awe. There is really nothing else in the world that compares to the vastness of being outside and appreciating your surroundings. Whether you\u2019re in a forest surrounded by trees, looking at mountains in the distance, or even appreciating acres of farmland, the wonder, and beauty of it all is enough to soothe your very being.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Take Advantage of Nature\u2019s Healing Power<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no one \u201cright\u201d way to make the most of nature. One of the biggest problems is that people take nature for granted. Something as simple as a walk in the park can become completely different when you start to fully appreciate your surroundings. Breathe in the fresh air, observe the sounds surrounding you, and take stock of how you feel when you\u2019re fully focused on the natural beauty of the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And consider how you decorate your office or living space &#8211; I have several landscape pictures around me.  At work, try to sit near a window, or use a &#8220;screen saver&#8221; that scrolls through your favorite outdoor scenes &#8211; beaches, mountains, grassy plains, etc. Eat your lunch outside when possible. My husband, Anthony Tzoumas, often dictates notes while walking around the parking lot just so he can get a taste of the outdoors during the work day.  Be creative and see how much better you feel when you include nature in your daily life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you\u2019re stressed, fatigued, overwhelmed, or anxious, spend more time outside. Take breaks from your day to consciously immerse yourself in nature.
